Educational Visits at St Edmund’s College

At St Edmund’s College, we believe that some of the most powerful learning happens outside the classroom. Our programme of trips and visits is a vital part of our pupils’ education, helping them to grow in independence, broaden their horizons, and create memories that last a lifetime. In fact, when asked to share their best moments at school, the majority of our pupils highlight school trips as their standout experiences.

A Rich and Varied Programme

Each year, we publish our 18-month calendar of trips and visits in the Annual Headmaster’s Easter Mailing, providing families with a clear overview and time to plan. This booklet showcases the exciting opportunities on offer, ranging from local day trips to international tours.

Highlights include:

  • Annual Ski Trip – always a favourite, with recent destinations including the USA, Canada, and Europe.
  • Biannual Sports Tours – teams have recently toured South Africa, Argentina, and across Europe, blending competitive sport with cultural exploration.
  • Academic Enrichment Trips – Geography and Biology pupils have studied volcanic landscapes and ecosystems in Iceland, Morocco, Costa Rica, the Azores, and Norway.
  • Music, Language and Culture Exchanges – immersive experiences across Europe that strengthen language learning and deepen cultural appreciation.
  • History and Art Visits – from battlefields to world-class art galleries, these day and short trips bring classroom learning vividly to life.

More than Just a Trip

Every visit, whether a local gallery or an overseas expedition, is designed with clear educational value. They encourage resilience, teamwork, and curiosity, while helping pupils to develop a sense of perspective and global citizenship. Most importantly, they are fun, inspirational, and unforgettable.

At St Edmund’s College, our trips are not an “extra” – they are a core part of what makes our education distinctive, adventurous, and truly memorable.

Pupils can also attend Combined Cadet Force camps and Duke of Edinburgh expeditions and enjoy day trips and shorter adventures in the UK.
