Boarding at St Edmund’s is an experience that students thrive on. For many weeks of the year, the College is a students’ home and therefore we strive to make their experience an enriching, happy and comfortable one. Boarders are very well supported in their time at the College from the moment they arrive and go through the induction programme to when they leave us as true Edmundians. We aim to develop confident, caring, well-rounded students who are well prepared to go on to the next stage of their lives and to really make a difference to the world they live in.
New boarders are helped to settle in quickly and all boarders participate in an induction programme and weekend. A team of staff support all students throughout their time in boarding and these staff will lead activities in the evening, monitor their evening study sessions and are always on hand for students to talk to when needed.
Academic excellence is key to a boarder’s life at the College and prep sessions are very closely monitored and boarding staff work very closely with Heads of Houses/Year and tutors to ensure every boarder is challenged and reaches their full potential.
The Chapel is at the heart of the College and plays a very important part in a boarder’s life. Students of all faiths grow to really appreciate the time they spend in the Chapel. Evening prayers include Compline, Chapel Band, Student-led prayers and Meditation and give students the opportunity to reflect and have a deeper understanding of the Catholic faith. There is a weekly Mass every Sunday. There are opportunities for students to become involved in the leadership of the Spiritual Life of the College through the Sacristy team, the Choir and through leading prayers and reading at Mass. Students take great pride in being part of these groups are often complimented on the maturity they show.
Boarders do have a busy schedule which includes morning and evening prayers, academic lessons, assemblies, games, structured prep sessions, activities and fixtures. We also strongly believe time needs to be available for students to relax and this is also fitted into the daily routine.
