(Age 11 - 16)
We have a long history of welcoming international students (boarding from age 11 up).
International boarders study a full curriculum, take advantage of our excellent English language support and enjoy a busy co-curricular programme at weekends.
Application process
Admission to St Edmund’s is selective and following registration, applicants complete an interview and entry test. We ask for copies of recent school reports and a school reference, as part of our registration process. If successful, applicants are placed in the school year for their chronological age.
Entry assessments
Entry tests for applicants aged 11-14 (Year 7-9) are in English and Mathematics. Entry assessments for GCSE (Year 10) and A Level (Year 12) courses are conducted by testing and interview as appropriate.
All applicants are assessed for proficiany in English. We use the Password Knowledge and Writing Test to evaluate if an applicant meets our required minimum CEFR Levels for each year group:
Year group | Password level | CEFR level |
Year 7 (Elements) | 3.5 – 4 | A2 – B1.1 |
Year 8 (Rudiments) | 4 | B1.1 |

Year 12 (Rhetoric) | 6 | B2.2 |
Studying in the UK
- Students with parents living outside the UK must have a responsible adult living in the UK to act as a guardian.
- St Edmund’s College is licensed by the UK Border Agency to enrol international students. Newland Chase supports the College and families to navigate the visa process and will utilise applicant data to complete this process on our behalf.
