St Edmund’s College Combined Cadet Force (CCF)

Established in 1916, the St Edmund’s Combined Cadet Force (CCF) has a long and proud history and is an extremely popular aspect of the St Edmund’s experience.

The College Cadet Force is part of the national CCF organisation which is sponsored by the Ministry of Defence. At the College students can enter either the Army or Royal Air Force (RAF) sections and can also participate in the Corps of Drums.

Training focuses on developing self-confidence, teamwork and leadership skills, and providing opportunities to learn practical skills such as first aid, map-reading and outdoor skills. Senior Cadets learn how to instruct and take a leading role in delivering training to younger students.

In addition to weekly training, Cadets take part in weekend exercises and Summer camps which are held within the College grounds and on Army or RAF training areas across the UK and overseas.

There is also a significant focus on adventurous training, with opportunities to experience and gain qualifications in a range of activities including rock climbing, hill walking, flying, kayaking, archery.

As part of our commitment to the wider community, the College CCF has successfully partnered with several local schools in recent years, allowing them to offer the CCF experience to their students and providing our students with additional training opportunities.
