At St Edmund’s wellbeing is vital, and we encourage a healthy balance between study, co-curricular activities and social life.

House system

A strong pastoral care system is delivered via our five houses, named after great figures in our College history. Students join a House when they first arrive at St Edmund’s. Our Heads of House and team of tutors oversee the personal and academic development of each student, ensuring they are well looked after and encouraged to achieve their best.

House spirit is encouraged through a variety of inter-house competitions, both sporting and cultural, and through numerous house celebrations, ranging from formal dinners to summer barbecues. Each house also provides a day-to-day framework for discipline and respect for others. Although there are school rules which must be adhered to, just as important is our pro-active system of commendation and reward. Students are encouraged to act with consideration, self-discipline and social awareness.

Additional support

Students also have the support of our nurses based in our on-site Medical Centre, and access to chaplaincy or our counsellor.

Through our busy co-curricular programme there are plenty of ways to keep busy and active outside of lessons.

Students are not just names on a list, but young people who are well known by staff and nurtured to ensure they achieve their full potential in all areas of College life.
