CCF
It has been another busy term and fantastic to see so many students getting so much out of the Cadet experience. Senior cadets continue to lead training sessions and a full programme of weekend activities and trips have all been seized on with gusto.
The Cadets have continued to enjoy taking a lead in fulfilling their service commitment, supporting other College events from the Fireworks night to the Senior Citizens party and the Prep Christmas fete.
Army Section
In addition to weekly training afternoons, the highlight of the term for the Army section was our October fieldcraft weekend – Ex Autumn Warrior. Joined by our Goff’s cadets and a number from John Warner CCF, the cadets were put through their paces with a demanding set of scenarios and activities. Despite the best efforts of Storm Amy and some “windy weather” they all rose to the challenge admirably showing outstanding determination, teamwork and leadership.
A weekend of learning instruction techniques, a shooting match against Haileybury, leading the College Remembrance Day service and our annual Mess dinner have all provided additional highlights.
RAF
During their weekly training sessions, our RAF cadets have been busy both in and out of the classroom working towards their Bronze Space and Fieldcraft qualifications.
Over the October half term, a group were lucky enough to attend the week-long Camp in RAF Valley, Anglesey. As well as spending a week surrounded by the sights and sounds of the fast jets training, they met trainee pilots, spent time with them in the flight sims, visited air traffic control, and enjoyed some fantastic evening activities, including bowling and quizzes.
Another highlight of the term was a visit to Voyager Flight Simulation in Luton, where they put their theory of flight training into practice, taking to the skies virtually, at the controls of a Boeing 737 and Robinson R22. The day included a Q&A session with an experienced Captain, and culminated in their successful completion of the Mid-Air Escape Room scenario, where they had to work as a team to battle challenging weather and technical difficulties and safely land the aircraft.
Corps of Drums
The Corps of Drums continues to go from strength to strength adding new pieces to their repertoire and putting in numerous high-quality performances including, the College fireworks night, Senior Citizen’s party and the CCF Mess dinner. With a full set of tunics, they are also looking quite the part! A huge thank you to Lt Eliasson and Capt Shaw for all the continued support and hard work in making it happen.
