At St Edmund’s College, the JASS Mentoring programme has brought together pupils from across the College and Prep in a shared journey of leadership, teamwork and community. JASS (the Junior Award Scheme for Schools) is a progressive learning programme that recognises a broad range of achievements, similar in spirit to the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award.

The scheme develops the whole individual through four key areas: regular physical activity (Get Active, Stay Active), exploration of a personal interest (My Interests), involvement in the community or environment (Me and My World), and completing an outdoor adventure. Each level encourages pupils to progress with greater commitment, learning and challenge.

Since January, several Rhetoric I pupils have been mentoring a group of Year 5 pupils through the JASS programme. This partnership has created a meaningful opportunity for pupils of different ages to connect, collaborate and learn from one another. The younger pupils have benefitted from the encouragement and guidance of their older peers, while the Rhetoric pupils have embraced their roles as leaders and role models within the College community.

The year’s efforts culminated in a celebratory JASS Awards event, where each Year 5 pupil was presented with a certificate recognising their achievements. The occasion not only highlighted the dedication and growth of the pupils involved but also reflected the spirit of community that makes St Edmund’s so special.
