The atmosphere was electric at St Edmund’s College as pupils from across the College came together for this year’s Grand House Relay — a thrilling afternoon of competition, teamwork and House pride.
With 24 runners representing each House from Elements through to Rhetoric, the event highlighted not only the depth of athletic talent across the College, but also the spirit, resilience and determination that define sport at St Edmund’s.
A huge amount of preparation went into making the event such a success, with staff from across the College supporting the smooth running of the day. Special thanks go to the Grounds Team, whose superb preparation of the track – including the introduction of the new 200m relay format – helped create a fast-paced and highly competitive competition.
And competitive it certainly was.
In an incredibly close contest, just 30 seconds separated first and fifth place, with every relay leg making a vital difference to the final standings.
Final Results
- Pole – 12:51.48
- Talbot – 13:01.01
- Poynter – 13:11.13
- Douglass – 13:17.21
- Challoner – 13:24.42
The event also provided an excellent opportunity for the PE Department and House teams to identify emerging talent for future competitions.
Particular recognition goes to Amelia R, Orla S, Alex S and Stanley C, who each stepped up to run twice for their Houses, completing an impressive 400m effort across the relay.
More than simply a race, the Grand House Relay reflected the wider role of sport within College life, bringing together pupils of all ages in moments of excellence, courage, teamwork and pride in representing something bigger than themselves.
Images from the afternoon will be shared across screens around the College, capturing the energy and determination shown throughout the event, including a memorable celebration photo from the victorious Pole House team.
Attention now turns to Sports Day on 19th June at Wodson Park Sports and Leisure Centre. The question remains: can Pole continue their winning streak, or will another House rise to claim the crown?
