University & Careers
Rhetoric I and II (Sixth Form) is led by two Co-Directors who stay as head of year with the year group as they move through each year of study. This ensures that the students benefit from guidance from one key member of staff who knows them well as they move through the UCAS programme, university application process and of course their examination periods. The Co-Directors of Rhetoric are also supported by personal tutors, Head of House and our careers adviser ensuring that each child is individually supported through their Rhetoric studies and that every assistance is given in choosing a career and in the fulfilment of personal goals.
During their first year, all students take part in an intensive UCAS programme to help guide them through the university application process. This involves a number of guest speakers and trips to various organisations covering a range of careers and professions, plus attendance at a University Convention.
Students are also offered individual career interviews and Centigrade testing, which guides them towards appropriate university courses. We also run a programme of Mock Interviews to assist with university applications and we are grateful for Old Edmundians and parents who support this process.
We expect all of our Rhetoricians to proceed to the university of their choice. Former students have gone on to read a diverse range of Higher Education subjects ranging from Architecture, Law, Medicine and Quantity Surveying; to Business Studies, ICT, Fashion Design and Sports Psychology, at some of the UK’s leading universities.
