Cambridge Technical Diploma (CTEC)

From 2024, we are excited to offer a new Rhetoric pathway – the Cambridge Technical Diploma (CTEC).

This qualification is equivalent to two A Levels, and involves a mixture of internal and external assessment, students can opt for either Business Level 3 or Sport and Physical Activity Level 3.

The Diploma be able to be combined with a Core Mathematics or an EPQ qualification (both equivalent to half an A Level), or studied as a standalone qualification.

How you combine the CTEC with your broader studies should depend on discussion with our Rhetoric team and reflect your co-curricular commitments, GCSE profile and future ambitions.

 

Why choose the National Diploma?

This is a level 3 vocational qualification. You can enter university with these qualifications and most universities are very happy to accept them. They are ideal preparation for practical degree courses, for example, sports science.

Grades:

Pass – equivalent to grade E at A-level

Merit – equivalent to grade C at A-level

Distinction – equivalent to grade A at A-level

CTEC in Business

What will I study?

The Cambridge Technical Diploma in Business has been designed to form qualifications which provide knowledge and understanding of this vocational area. It is an ideal qualification for those students who want a broad background in Business which will allow them to progress to further or higher education, training or employment.

The C-TEC Diploma in Business can reasonably be undertaken by students entering this vocational area for the first time. You do not need to have studied Business at GCSE to study the C-TEC in Rhetoric 1

At St Edmund’s College, students follow the Marketing Pathway and undertake the following units:

  • Unit 1 The Business Environment – EXAM
  • Unit 2 Working in Business – EXAM
  • Unit 3 Business Decisions – EXAM
  • Unit 4 Customers and Communications
  • Unit 5 Marketing and Market Research
  • Unit 6 Marketing Strategy
  • Unit 7 Marketing Campaign
  • Unit 15 Change Management  – EXAM
  • Unit 16 Principles of Project Management
  • Unit 22 Delivering a Business Project

(Unit 1 and Unit 22 are double units)

How will I study?

This course really focuses on the vocational aspects of Business so you will find a lot of teaching is based on case studies, application to a variety of different businesses, visiting speakers, role plays and visits to industry.

How is the course examined?

Students will be assessed by a mixture of:

  • Assignments – set and marked internally
  • Written exams – set and marked by the exam board

The C-TEC Diploma earns you UCAS points and is equivalent to 2 A levels. This means you can complete the C-TEC Diploma in Business alongside one other A level.

Where next?

The qualification is well regarded and will enable students to study various courses at university such as:

Business Management, Business and Finance, Logistics and Supply Chain, Personnel Management, Events Management and Enterprise.

Higher level apprenticeships are also available, leading to Business or Business Administration careers.

Opportunities for graduates include Business Ownership, Sales and Marketing executive positions, Chartered Accountancy, Human Resource Management, Logistics and Supply Chain Management, Systems Analyst positions, Retail Management, Insurance Underwriter positions, Public Relations, Teaching, and Events Management.
