Personal Development

St. Edmund’s firmly believes that personal and social development is essential to educational success and plays a central role in shaping students into well-rounded, compassionate, and responsible adults.

Our aim is to provide every child and young person with an education that equips them to embrace life’s opportunities and overcome its challenges—both now and in the future.

PSHE (Personal, Social, Health, and Economic Education)
The PSHE curriculum at St. Edmund’s is central to nurturing students’ personal and social growth. Covering key topics such as emotional and mental health, relationships, online safety, and future choices, PSHE helps students develop essential life skills. These lessons are structured in a way that builds on prior learning as students advance through their school years. Complemented by regular workshops, assemblies, and guest speakers, the PSHE programme ensures students are well-equipped to make informed decisions and thrive in an ever-changing world.

Careers and Futures
Preparing students for both traditional and non-traditional career paths is a key priority at St. Edmund’s. Through the Careers & Futures programme, students gain vital knowledge and skills to make informed decisions about GCSE, sixth form, university, or apprenticeships. Our structured pathway ensures that students are ready for the workplace by engaging with practical career experiences, mentoring, and opportunities to build soft skills. With access to resources like the Unifrog platform, students are guided through the process of researching careers and applications, giving them the tools to succeed in their chosen field.

Service and Leadership
Service and leadership are at the heart of the St. Edmund’s educational experience. Our Service & Leadership programme encourages students to take an active role in contributing to the community and developing leadership skills. From charity fundraising to leading co-curricular activities, students are challenged to participate in a wide range of activities. The programme culminates in the Service & Leadership Award and external opportunities like the Duke of Edinburgh Award and Young Enterprise, providing real-world experiences that shape students into responsible and compassionate leaders.

These dynamic programmes provide our students with the necessary tools to succeed academically and personally, preparing them for the future and fostering lifelong skills. See the linked boxes below for more information.
