At St Edmund’s College and Prep, we observed Holocaust Memorial Day on January 26th. This year’s theme, the Fragility of Freedom, served as a poignant reminder of how easily freedom can slip away when taken for granted. It underscored the importance of learning from those who witnessed the horrors of the Holocaust and other genocides.
During the October half term, several Rhetoric students travelled to Poland. There, they created a display focusing on Schindler’s factory and Auschwitz.
On the day itself, students signed their names on small paper doves. These small doves were then assembled onto a larger dove, symbolizing unity and remembrance. Following this, students lit candles and offered prayers for a world still plagued by violence and acts of cruelty, often stemming from religious, racial, or ideological differences.
