Art Scholarship Elements

Applications for Elements (Year 7) Art Scholarship 2026 are now closed. Applications for 2027/28 will be open in Summer-Autumn 2026.

Applicants will be assessed on the evidence they submit in each of the sections and failure to submit evidence for any section will reduce their final score.

Personal Portfolio

Applicants will be asked to bring with them a portfolio of their own art or design work on the Assessment day. It must include a selection of two-dimensional work in any media and photographs of any three-dimensional work they have made. We will be looking for evidence of skilful handling of the formal elements of the visual language and a wide engagement with creative visual expression. Please do not bring three-dimensional work as we cannot take responsibility for any breakage that may occur.

Artist Research

Applicants will be asked to present some research on a specified artist in an individual and exciting way and bring it with them on the Assessment Day. It should include:

• Artist Information – tell us about the artist and their work
• Your personal views what do you think about their work
• Analyse at least one of their pieces of work
• Create a pastiche (a copy of the artist’s work) and explain why you have chosen the particular artwork

Drawing Test

On the day of the assessment, students will be given a set of drawing tasks to complete. They will be given all the materials required on the day. We will be looking for evidence of skilful and imaginative handling of the formal elements in a variety of media, and the ability to observe and record visual information accurately and effectively.

If you are an external applicant, you must complete a registration form to be considered for a scholarship. This can be found at https://www.stedmundscollege.org/how-to-apply/how-to-register/.
