St Edmund’s Prep School recently welcomed pupils from schools across Hertfordshire to compete in its annual community football festival. The event saw more than 150 children attend, from across nine different local schools, each eager to demonstrate their skills on the pitch.

A part of St Edmund’s ongoing community outreach programme, the football festival aimed to foster camaraderie among local schools and their pupils, whilst also promoting an active lifestyle amongst children.

The event proved a resounding success, with participants and spectators alike enjoying a day filled with excitement and friendly competition. Our Year 6 children were sports leaders and they helped to run the event. They were referees, team managers and results recorders.  One local Headmistress commented on the day:

“What a fantastic morning! Your Year 6 team are an absolute credit to the school.”

Head of St Edmund’s Prep, Steven Cartwright, said:

“We were delighted to welcome so many children onto our school grounds from our neighbouring community. The festival provided an excellent opportunity for participating children to test their abilities, learn from one another, enjoy friendly competition, and hone their essential teamwork skills in a supportive and inclusive environment. Well done to everyone who took part in this fantastic day. We look forward to organising this event again next year.”

In addition to the Festival, on the same day, St Edmund’s Prep hosted the first East Herts Prep School’s Partnership Football Cup which saw teams compete against each other in the hopes of going home with the winning trophy. In the group stage of the competition, our team won one, drew one and lost one game to set up a final against St Joseph’s in The Park.

The final was a tense match, with St Joseph’s In The Park; Duncombe School; Keble Prep; and St Edmund’s Prep all working hard to be crowned the winning team. In the end, St Edmund’s Prep’s U11A football team triumphed 2 – 1 against St Joseph’s In The Park, to win the trophy. Well done team!

Finally, as if we were not doing enough sport, on the same day, St Edmund’s Prep’s U11A netball team travelled to Stormont to participate in the first East Herts Prep School’s Partnership Netball Cup.  The team played against St Joseph’s In the Park, Duncombe School and Stormont School.  St Edmund’s team won all of their group games to set up a final against Stormont.  The St Edmund’s team won this game 7-4 to claim their first trophy of the season. Well done to you all!
