If you happened to visit the Prep on Friday 17th November you may have thought you had entered a magical wizarding world and in fact were not at St Edmund’s Prep at all as it had transformed into our very own Hogwarts for the day celebrating twenty years of J K Rowling’s famous series of books.
The children arrived in their Hogwarts uniform to the decorated Prep and were greeted by our very own Professor Dumbledore before being ‘sorted’ into their new Hogwarts Houses. During lesson time, the young witches and wizards exercised their imaginations on various creative writing activities inspired by the Harry Potter books. The College Science department transformed into Hogwarts staff for the day and performed a series of magical potion experiments, casting spells, making foaming Hippograff toothpaste, changing colour potions and even making things fly, leaving the children in awe. The children also made their very own slime pots and wands in the Art department and chocolate frogs in the Cookery room.
On the sporting front, the older children took part in a Quidditch tournament while the younger ones went searching for that elusive snitch! All enjoyed themselves on the dance floor at the end of the day and the magic continued with a Harry Potter puppet theatre for the youngest.
We are not sure who had more fun throughout this immersive education day but we know it is definitely one that all will never forget. We thank all the parents who supported the project from lending props to decorating the school the night before.
