School Staff Instructor (SSI)

(Required for January 2023)

We require a School Staff Instructor (SSI) to assist the Contingent Commander (CC) in the efficient management of the Contingent and in other duties as directed by the CC.  In addition, certain security duties and tasks required by the Health & Safety Officer.

The successful candidate will preferably have a military background as well as relevant skills and experience.  They will welcome the many opportunities to contribute to the lively extra-curricular life of the College, which is situated in rural East Hertfordshire. St Edmund’s is England’s oldest Catholic school offering an all-round co-education for students from 3 to 18 and for families from all faiths.

  • Whilst not in a teaching role, as School Staff Instructor (SSI) you will be working on a regular basis in a school in a role which gives opportunity for contact with children. As such, you will be in regulated activity and an enhanced DBS check (which includes children’s barred list information) will be required in advance of appointment.
  • Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children is everyone’s responsibility. As with all College staff members, you will therefore be responsible for providing a safe environment in which children can learn.
  • The post will involve close contact with, and a high degree of responsibility for, children and young adults. The majority of this will be regulated activity.
