Anniversary success at A Level for St Edmund’s College

In its 450th anniversary year as England’s oldest Catholic school, St Edmund’s College, Ware is proud to announce some of its best ever examination results with over 70% of entries at A Level, IB and EPQ being awarded at grades A*- B and 41% of all students achieving A*- A grades or the equivalent.

Further Mathematics students achieved 100% A*- A grades; Mathematics 79.3% A*- B. Our English Literature students secured a remarkable clutch of 92% grades at A*- B. Drama, Chinese, German, Italian, Russian and Spanish achieved 100% A*- B grades. In Business Studies, Chemistry, French and Geography A*- B results ranged from 70% to 85%.

This year two students secured places at Cambridge with others going on to study at Kings, UCL, Durham, Loughborough, Manchester, Nottingham and Exeter with the great majority of our students offered places of their choice. Every student deserves to be very proud as they go on to a range of exciting opportunities at university, apprenticeship and gap year placements.

Our musical, drama and extra-curricular life is stronger than ever proving that our academic success is only enhanced by the opportunities we provide outside the classroom. We salute all our staff in and outside the classroom that help to create a culture of care and support, but also set the highest possible standards for all.

Paulo Durán, Headmaster, commented, ‘The overall score speaks for itself as a great endorsement of all the effort and commitment of our students and staff, but what is especially satisfying is to see the breadth, as well as depth, of academic achievement across STEM, Modern Languages and Arts subjects’.

2018 was always going to be a special year for St Edmund’s and these commendable examination results give us even more reason to celebrate!
