Boarding

Boarding life at the College provides structured study alongside a well established activities programme offering the children a wealth of experiences such as themed evenings, sport, music and weekend trips.  Spiritual life of the College under pins all that the children do and this is supported by the outstanding team of dedicated boarding staff whose aim is to provide confident, caring and happy children.

The boarding community is at the heart of St Edmund's and we believe it adds an enriching dimension to a child's school experience. In particular, we believe boarding helps to develop a child's maturity, self-confidence and provides a step towards a more independent life. We offer boarding for both boys and girls (in separate boarding areas) from the age of eleven.

Children are supported by a high level of pastoral care based on a successful house system throughout their time at St Edmund’s.  Facilities include state of the art IT suites, art and design technology workshops, gym, tennis courts, flood lit Astroturf and an indoor swimming pool.

All new boarders take part in an Induction Weekend to help them settle in, make new friends and get to know the staff. Our Boarding Council, made of students and staff, also meets regularly to discuss life in boarding and ways in which facilities and activities can be improved.

The ethos of the school ensures that students are given time and support to personally develop in many areas. The College offers over 80 activities including the Duke of Edinburgh Award and Combined Cadet Force along with the service and leadership within the local community and the College itself.   With over 200 children currently involved in the Duke of Edinburgh program and 30 children achieving Gold Award in the last two year this was recognised by the South East region of DofE, putting St Edmund’s as a leader in the field and accrediting us with our own Duke of Edinburgh licence.
