Zeal for the Faith
Academic Results
2011 saw our best ever results which happened through the hard work of staff and students and the support of our parents. Our good value added score represents the fulfilment of our Catholic mission in ensuring that all make the best use of their talents, often exceeding their potential. External independent reviews of our A Level performance show that St Edmund’s College is now in the top 8% of schools (Independent and State) for progress made between GCSE and A Level examinations. This is a very pleasing achievement and shows that St Edmund’s College achieves both excellent A*-B % grades and outstanding value added.

Teaching at St Edmund's
Teaching at all levels at St Edmund's is characterised by enthusiasm and inspiration. Small classes ensure that the academic progress of every student is monitored regularly to ensure that they are fulfilling their potential.
At every age, we adjust our teaching to suit the ability and learning needs of individual pupils, whether it is providing additional support to those who may need it, or through offering a lively programme of activities for our Gifted and Talented students.
Academic Resources
Our centrally located library is one of the College's most important resources and is easily accessible to both staff and students. As well as a place of private study and leisure reading, the library is also a venue for whole class use, for researching information for project work, course work and prep. IT provision is key to modern learning methods and in recent years we have invested heavily in this area to ensure our students have access to the latest facilities. These include state-of-the art ICT suites, interactive whiteboards and wireless internet access.
From Elements - Poetry (11-16 years)
Students join us aged 11 in Elements (Year 7). The aim at this stage is to encourage a broad spectrum of subjects, combining traditional subjects such as English, Maths, History and Science with classes in Art, Design Technology and ICT. In Years 8 and 9 students add a second foreign language to their studies. All students study Religious Education and take part in games.
At GCSE Level (Years 10 and 11) students study a range of compulsory core subjects, including at least one foreign language. They are then free to choose from a large number of optional subjects. Please visit the Departments section for further details.
