Netball Match Reports

Saturday 17th March

St Edmund’s Prep U11’s Netball @ St Francis’ College Netball Rally

Our netball 'A' team played superbly well and recorded three impressive victories against the host school, Heathmount and St Christophers.  Overall the team finished fifth out of eight schools in a tournament where the standard of play was exceptionally good.  Well done to all of the girls.

Sherrardswood U11’s Netball ‘A’

In a warm-up game for their upcoming tournament at the weekend, the girls quickly found their rhythm in their first match of the term.  They played some fluid netball and changed positions throughout the match to show off their versatility.  Daire Coates scored two, Charlotte Christie scored two, Kirsty Kingdon scored one and Monet Scrimali and Ellie Minichiello both scored five each in an emphatic win.

Thursday 1st December

Forest U11’s Netball ‘A’

St Edmund’s Prep U11’s Netball ‘A’

This match was very close until the final quarter, where the score was finely balanced with only one goal separating the teams.  However, Forest pulled away in the final quarter of the match and scored several goals to ensure victory.  Monet Scrimali was again impressive as Goal Attack and scored five times, whilst Ellie Minichiello scored twice and Kirsty Kingdon grabbed another one.  The team finished the season with their heads held high after several impressive wins and some good performances in tournaments.  Their wins outweighed their losses and the girls really showed superb signs of development, as a team, throughout the season.  Well done girls!

St Joseph’s In The Park U11’s Netball ‘A’

 11

Despite losing to a strong St Joseph’s In The Park team, the U11’s netball side showed much improvement from their game earlier in the season against the same opponents.  Monet Scrimali scored twice and Ellie Minichiello added the other goal, whilst Daire Coates played well in centre court and Charlotte Christie defended determinedly.  Both teams had approximately the same number of scoring opportunities, although the away side’s shooters were quite lethal on the day.

A fast paced and exciting game was played by both teams. The girls played excellently as a team with some good passing and improved footwork. St. Joseph’s in the Park were a very strong team, dominating the match from the beginning, but this did not deter the St. Edmunds Prep girls from playing with determination and perseverance. Nada Tadros worked hard in her position of goal defence and was supported well by her team mates. The girls tried extremely hard and moved the ball around the court well, enabling a few shots at goal from Niamh Beagon and Simone Hocherman.

What a wonderful finale to this term’s netball.  Our squad of 10 girls should feel very proud of the immense progress they have made, both individually, and as a team.  It was a slight disappointment not to have won, considering we were in the lead for three quarters of the match.  The bitter cold began to sting as darkness fell.  Under the floodlights the girls gave of their best and a very enjoyable game was had by all.  The wonderful tea of sausages, chips and beans from Holroyd Howe was a welcome treat.

The U9’s netball team played very well once again and were this time rewarded for their efforts.  Niamh Beagon’s shooting was impressively accurate as she scored two early goals, whilst Evie Gostling also scored.  Ava Lawrence and Ayla Moore also caught the eye with some great performances in centre court, whilst Amy McParland continues to impress as a defender.

Duncombe U11’s Netball ‘A’

Another great game for the U11’s A team ended with another super result.  Natasha Feltham again shone in Wing Defence and her regular interceptions are proving to be very useful.  Daire Coates was sensational once again as our ‘all-action’ centre and never gave up fighting to gain possession of the ball.  However, Monet Scrimali stole centre stage with seven fantastic goals, including one outstanding score from the edge of the shooting circle.  Kirsty Kingdon also scored three goals and Ellie Minichiello scored the other.  In terms of our defensive performance, Charlotte Christie, Rachel Milton and Natasha Feltham are forming a great relationship and understanding in the defensive third.

Duncombe U11’s Netball ‘B’

The game was exciting and evenly matched from beginning to end. Throughout the game the girls played with excellent team spirit and determination. The first half of the match was dominated by St.Edmund’s Prep, with good attacking from Emma Scott and Lily Ridehalgh. The girls kept the ball in Duncombe’s defending third and had a few chances at a goal. By the end of the second quarter Simone Hocherman and Kate Barrett had secured a lead of two goals to nil for St.Edmund’s Prep. Unfortunately the second half of the game was dominated slightly more by Duncombe with them gaining a goal in the third and fourth quarter. Nada Tadros and Bianca Amorelli were a brilliant defensive partnership, intercepting passes and trying their hardest to get the ball out of St Edmund’s Prep’s defensive third. A brilliant game from all the girls with a draw as the end result.

The U9’s netball team made a great start to the match and scored in the first few minutes through Niamh Beagon.  However, Kingshott soon came back into the match and scored three goals of their own.  In the last two minutes, Kingshott scored a further three in quick succession to win the match 6-1.  Ayla Moore played well as centre and Amy McParland was also impressive in the defending third.

The U11's netball 'A' team were in fantastic form as they beat their opponents by 20 goals to nil.  Monet Scrimali played vey well and battled for the ball in an attempt to start off our attacking moves.   She played very well as a Wing Attack and then played Goal Attack for the last quarter and scored 3 goals.  Kirsty Kingdon was also outstanding and also scored 7 goals, Ellie Minichiello added six more and Charlotte Christie also scored four.  Daire Coates was inspirational in the centre court and gave yet another accomplished display with her excellent play.

Unfortunately this score does not reflect what a close match this was.  Once again we scored the first goal, by Niamh Beagon, enthusiastically supported by Evie Gostling.  Our defending was very strong, with Callum McGurk being very fast to intercept the ball.  Ava Lawrence was very noticeable for evading her opponent and quickly passing the ball.  Once again our height disadvantage did not dampen our spirits and this was a very enjoyable game.

During an eventful match, the score was evenly balanced at 2-2 going into the final third.  However, our sharp-shooting attackers, assisted by the impressive Daire Coates, saw us safely to a good victory.  Monet Scrimali was in fine form and scored five goals, whilst Kirsty Kingdon added another.  Natasha Feltham was excellent in the defensive third and made several key interceptions.  We wish the Ralph Sadleir player that broke her arm during the match a speedy recovery along with our best wishes.

The match was dominated by St.Edmund’s Prep from beginning to end with the girls playing with great determination. Simone Hocherman and Ellie Minichiello scored the 13 goals and were supported well by their teammates. The team played excellently in both attack and defence with secure passing. Emma Scott played confidently in the centre court and kept the ball moving around skilfully. Well done girls on an excellent match.

Friday 14th October

St Edmunds Prep U11’s Netball ‘A’ @ Forest Tournament

Super netball was played by our U11’s A team at the Forest Netball Tournament.  Our first set of matches in the initial group stages saw us win three (5-1, 9-0 and 5-1) and draw one game 1-1.  With our girls drawing on points at the top of the table, we narrowly missed out on first place (and a guaranteed top six finish) to the hosts, Forest, by just one goal scored!  We qualified into Group Two where our next set of games saw us win two (3-0 and 5-0) and lose the other two matches.  Overall, we finished in 8th position out of 25 schools.  Throughout the day great skills and teamwork were used in the centre court, with our defence making lots of outstanding interceptions.  Our shooters for the day, Kirsty Kingdon, Ellie Minichiello, Charlotte Christie and Monet Scrimali, scored 29goals between them.  A great day was had by all and it was encouraging to see just how much the team has grown in confidence and skill since last year.

St Edmund’s Prep U7’s Endball ‘A’

In a thoroughly exciting and end to end match, our U7’s endball team were unlucky to lose by one goal.  In an adapted game of netball that works upon the fundamentals of passing, catching and movement, as well as developing team play, the St Edmund’s Prep team did well to create several scoring opportunities.  Liam Mays and Jack Davies scored our goals, whilst Mackenzie Mace went close on several occasions.  Well done everyone.

After losing their first match, the U9’s netball team were determined to make amends against their opposition from Royston.  After drawing plaudits for their excellent positional sense and grasp of passing and moving, St Edmund’s Prep soon started to attack with purpose against a physically bigger team.  However, Niamh Beagon’s four goals and one from Evie Gostling ensured a well-deserved victory.  Amy McParland and Ava Lawrence were also outstanding in defence, whilst Ayla Moore showed real promise as a dynamic centre.

St Edmund’s Prep U9’s Netball ‘A’

Despite taking an early lead from an Evie Gostling shot at goal, our U9’s netball team went on to lose against a physically stronger Year 4 team from Bishops Stortford College Junior School.  Amy McParland had a good game as Goal Defence and Niamh Beagon also worked well in the attacking third.

Our U11’s ‘A’ netball team came up against a very strong opposition, but kept battling all the way to the end of the game.  Ellie Minichiello and Kirsty Kingdon both managed to score a goal each, although most of our work during the game was done in our own defensive third.

The ‘B’ team also played against a physically stronger and more experienced team and finished the game losing by twelve goals to one.  The pace of the game was a little quicker than what some of our players were used to, and this led to some fundamental errors.  However, the girls still enjoyed the game and will have learnt from their experience.  Well done to the impressive Nada Tadros for scoring our goal.

Thursday 29th September

The girls played a fast paced game with good team work. Daire Coates, Maddie Kavanagh and Natasha Feltham kept the ball moving around the court and were able to provide Kirsty Kingdon and Monet Scrimali with excellent shooting opportunities.  Rachel Milton and Charlotte Christie were a strong defence but Stormont were able to take the lead with four goals by the second quarter. At the start of the third quarter the girls were able to even out the score and showed great determination.  Rachel Milton and Monet Scrimali scored four excellent goals but unfortunately by the end of the game Stormont had managed to take the lead once more. A great game girls, well done.

A super start to the match was made with some fantastic attacking play from Monet Scrimali who was scoring prolifically.  Natasha Feltham and Charlotte Christie defended with great determination and skilfully keeping Ralph Sadleir’s attackers at bay.  Unfortunately, Ralph Sadleir battled back in the final quarter from 3-1 down to earn a draw.  This was a real shame for the girls in a match that they deserved to win.

The third quarter was the turning point for St.Edmunds Prep, with quick passes and secure shooting from Rachel Milton and Niamh Beagon, the girls managed to score three goals in the space of three minutes. The last two quarters of the game showed great team work from St.Edmunds Prep, with the pace of the game increasing and a determination to win. Unfortunately, the team lost the game by one goal but the girls should be very proud of themselves for an excellent game.

St Edmunds Prep U11’s Netball ‘A’ @ Chigwell Tournament

On Saturday 10th September our under 11's began their netball season with a tournament at Chigwell school. The first three matches decided which group we would qualify into. The team made group three taking second place in their group and coming fourteenth out of the twenty four schools playing. They played eight matches , winning five and losing three. What a great start, with super team spirit from all and great leadership from netball captain Daire Coates.
