St Edmund’s Prep U11’s Hockey ‘A’

Kingshott U11’s Hockey ‘A’

In a very difficult match against a team that had recently qualified for the regional finals and included several county players, our team had a tough afternoon of working tirelessly to defend against a very competent team in hot conditions.  The players never gave up however and worked hard to defend and then try to pass the ball into wide areas to instigate some attacking play.  An unfortunate way to end a very good season, but the girls were given a good experience of learning from a team that have played together for a long time.

Lockers Park U11’s Boys’ Hockey ‘A’

This was a great performance in the boys’ first match of their short hockey season.  Despite playing a more experienced team, the boys’ superior athleticism soon began to earn them some dominance.  They performed the basics well and were able to pass and receive the ball effectively, whilst running with the ball quite skilfully down the flanks.  A goal proved elusive, even though we had several shots on target.  Gus Lawrence showed off some excellent stick skills in the centre of midfield, whilst Edward Hanley and James Rose ran with purpose down each wing.  The defensive pairing of Max Fraser and Theo Barrett was extremely solid and Phoenix Healy fashioned himself several good opportunities to score at the other end.  Finally, Dylan Cusack, in more goalkeeping kit than he was usually accustomed to, did very well to perform some agile saves as goalkeeper.  Well done boys!

Forest U11’s Hockey ‘A’

In their penultimate game for the prep school, the girls fell behind to an early strike by the Forest team.  However, we kept battling and managed to equalise just before half time with an instinctive strike by Charlotte Christie.  The second half began with St Edmund’s Prep having to defend for large periods, with our debutant goalkeeper Emma Scott making several great stops to keep us in the game.  Kirsty Kingdon also showed some skilful stick work in defence, winning the ball and then distributing it to the wing players.  The home team thought they had snatched victory when Daire Coates completed a great run by scoring a fantastic solo effort, although Forest managed to equalise in the final few moments.  A very exciting match!

St Joseph’s In The Park U11’s Hockey ‘A’

St Edmund’s Prep played some fantastic hockey in their best performance of the season.  It was a pleasure to see the players perform low lifts to beat opponents and switch the ball to the wings to attack with more width.  Rachel Milton really stood out in defence and Kirsty Kingdon showed some super stick skills as her defensive partner.  The goals were scored by Natasha Feltham, Daire Coates (x2) and Charlotte Christie (x2).

St Nicholas’ U11’s Hockey ‘A’

St Edmund’s Prep played well to win by five goals to one, showing some good passing movements and increasing levels of positional awareness.  The first half ended with the home side leading by four goals to one, courtesy of Daire Coates (x2), Charlotte Christie and Monet Scrimali.  Daire Coates completed her hat-trick early in the second half to round off a great performance.  Rachel Milton and Kirsty Kingdon also defended skilfully, whilst Charlotte Christie showed excellent awareness in the midfield by switching the ball into wider areas where there was more space to play.  Well done girls.

Saturday 3rd March

St Edmund’s Prep U9’s @ Kingshott Festival

A great opportunity on a Saturday morning was given to the U9’s team to play hockey, football and netball in a mini-tournament against other schools.  The first match was football and our side ended the match victorious with a great win against St Joseph’s In The Park.  Next was an end-to-end game of netball against Heathmount, where Niamh Beagon’s goal gave us a hard-fought victory.  We then played Heathmount at Hockey and won 2-1 thanks to a couple of fantastic strikes by James Rose.  We drew our next netball and football matches against Kingshott, before losing narrowly to Manor Lodge on the hockey field and then again on the football pitch.  Altogether, the team played 2 hockey matches (won1 and lost 1), 2 netball matches (won 1 and drew 1) and 3 football matches (won 1, drew 1 and lost 1)- altogether, 3 wins, 2 draws and 2 losses.  A special mention also goes to Ava Lawrence for being awarded ‘Player of the Tournament’ for St Edmund’s Prep.  Well done to all U9’s players that attended, you all played with great spirit!

St Edmund’s Prep U11’s Hockey ‘A’

Our hockey team came up against a technically good, skilful opposition from New Hall.  We started the match brightly and scored three very good goals in the first half, through Daire Coates, Charlotte Christie and Monet Scrimali.  This enabled us to go into half time at 3-3, despite leading for large periods of the first half.  However, the more experienced home side took hold of the match in the second half and scored five more goals.

Tuesday 28th February

Duncombe U9’s Hockey ‘A’

St Edmund’s Prep U9’s Hockey ‘A’

Despite trailing at half time to one goal, the U9’s hockey team played some very good hockey in the second half to score three goals in quick succession.  Ava Lawrence claimed a hat-trick as her quick feet and speed off the mark helped her to run clear of the Duncombe defence for each of her goals.  Niamh Beagon also played well in midfield, whilst Dora Michaelides and Ayla Moore were solid in defence.

The U9’s hockey team played extremely well in, what was for many, their first match for the school.  The passing and control was very good and showed that their early technique is developing well.  The front three of Joshua Charsley, Dylan Bassi and Marco Jacklin also ran with the ball confidently and showed skilful use of the reverse stick.  Ayla Moore was also impressive in midfield as she won the ball and distributed it to the wide players, whilst Dora Michaelides showed some neat touches in midfield and worked tirelessly.  Joshua Charsley scored a hat-trick of three goals, whilst Dylan Bassi scored the other two (including the goal of the match- a first time finish from a lovely cross by Marco Jacklin!)

The girls played their first match of the season against Duncombe School and won in style.  Superb stick skills were displayed by all girls, with Daire Coates and Charlotte Christie forming an effective midfield partnership.  Some of the goals were excellent and came as a result of some good work on the wings.  Daire Coates scored three goals, Charlotte Christie claimed three and Monet Scrimali finished off the other two.
