Sadly, we have received news of the death of Michael Peachey (Talbot 1950-1952) on Monday 26th March 2012 at the age of 76.  Our thoughts and prayers are with his family at this time.

News has been received of the death of Robin Christopher Whitney (Douglass & Allan Hall 1937-46) on 18 January 2012 at the age of 91.

William McCulloch Scott RIP

 

News has been received of the death of William McCulloch Scott (Douglass 1940-46) on 23 December 2011. Born 26th April 1928 in Aldershot, he passed away suddenly on the 23rd December 2011 at the Royal Surrey County Hospital, Guildford at the age of 83.The  funeral service was held on Thursday, 12th January at St Pius X R/C Church Merrow, and was followed by cremation at Guildford Crematorium. Bill was remembered by family and friends as a 'tireless English teacher'.

William (Bill) regularly took part in concerts and entertainments, including a  production of Hay Fever for the Divines on 12 February 1946. The cast included David Konstant. now Bishop Emeritus of Leeds. 

 

In 1946 he came second in the Cross Country, beaten by fellow Douglassian Tony Hidden, but won the 100, 220, 440 and 880yds for which he was awarded his house colours.

 

The Edmundian Autumn 1943 includes an account of a Harvest Camp near Baldock he attended with a group from St Edmund's in response to the Government appeal for voluntary labour at the height of the War. The group included : Bamford, Buhagiar (A.), Burt, Byron, Calnan, Castle, Cawthorne, Cunnington, Fonseca, Frost, Garvey, Green, Gilroy (A.), Gilroy (I) ., Hassett, Harrington, Head, Hidden, Hogg (A.), Hogg (P.), Keating, Kingsley (M .), Kingsley (D .), Miles, Newbert, Nottingham, O'Brien (P .), O'Brien (T.), O'Sullivan, Peirce, Roberts, Rossi (E .), Scott, Shipsey (M.), Shipsey (P.), Scott, Staunton, Thomas, Tuohy, Webb, Wheeler, Wilford (R .).

Aisling O'Regan RIP

It is with deep regret that we announce the death of Aisling O'Regan (Douglass 2005-07) on 23 December 2011 at the age of 20.  May she rest in peace.

 

The College Chapel was packed on Friday 6 January 2012 for a celebration of her life, followed by refreshments in the Refectory, where there was a display of items and photographs.

We congratulate Andy Payne (St Hugh's & Stapleton 1971-81) on being awarded an OBE in the New Year's Honours List for services to the UK computer games industry.


 

Awards Winners

 

The Edmundian Association Awards 2011

 

On Monday 12 December three outstanding young OEs were recognised by The Edmundian Association at an Awards Ceremony held at the College.

 

Andrew Archibald, James Hartley and Jasmine Smith, all of whom are in their first year at university, each received a cheque for £500. The awards, presented annually, are for acadamic achievement and service to the school.

 

The ceremony was attended by the winners, their families, members of staff and representatives of The Edmundian Association Committee. 

 

Association Chairman Peter Brabazon and President Nigel Howard presented the awards. Jasmine's award was collected on her behalf by her mother.    

 

Andrew is at Warwick reading English; James is reading medicine at St John’s College, Cambridge; and Jasmine is studying Optometry at Cardiff.

 

Congratulations to all of them and all good wishes for the future.
